Osram Opto Semiconductors has increased by 30%, in the laboratory, the efficiency of its red LED with high efficiency. The result was made possible thanks to the optimization of the chip.

Red LEDs have a wide range of applications: brake lights of vehicles, buildings, lighting, etc.. They shall address one of the three basic colors in small projectors or produce, for example in combination with white LEDs, a light nice and warm lighting environments. The efficiency reached means for users less energy and less space needed (with the same lighting).

The prototype chip infrared has reached a new record with an efficiency of up to 72 percent, the next step now is to put it into production.
